Ride to Recovery

Friday 20 April 2018

6.00am to 6.00pm

Keep the wheels spinning for 12 hours and make a real difference to the lives of our patients.

Last year our dedicated hospital staff raised $30,000, impacting the lives of thousands of patients across Victoria. This year we are inviting all Victorians to join in our 12 hour Ride to Recovery challenge and raise money in support  of ground breaking medical research  that can saves lives

Every dollar raised from the Ride will go towards the  many pioneering medical research programs at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Our researchers will help to find new and better treatments for the benefit of patients, not just in Melbourne, but worldwide.

Pop an exercise bike in your town, school, building, office or store. Invite the staff to sign up for a half hour time slot between 6am to 6.pm and keep the wheels spinning whilst raising funds for much needed medical research. Alternatively, come ride with the hospital staff at The Royal Melbourne Hospital – we’re a competitive bunch!

This is true team work, working together to make an extraordinary impact..."little by many makes a big difference”.

Don’t have a bike? No problem! We can provide it for you.

Matthew Keenan - Tour de France commentator

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is a place you never want to use but are eternally grateful if you do.

After a crash, while cycling, in March 2009 I was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. They put my face back together, with 65 stitches, and nursed me back to health as I recovered from fracturing my occipital condyle.

I'd never heard of this bone before, and on discovering that it's at the base of the skull connecting with the first vertebra, I was thankful it was minor fracture and relieved to be in such good hands.

A key part of my recovery was getting back on a stationary bike, with a neck brace on, and in April I'll be Riding to Recover to give a little back.
